This genuine ancient silver coin from Rhodes has been set in a modern 18 karat gold pendant. The beautiful island of Rhodes was very prosperous during the 4th Century, in large measure due to its five ideally situated harbors. Following the defeat of Demetrius (304/4), the Rhodians constructed their famous lighthouse (one of the seven wonders of the world), in honor of their patron god Helios. It is this brilliant deity who shines on this lovely coin. He is depicted as a young man of great beauty with flowing locks of hair like rays of the sun. On the reverse is a delicate rose bud just about to flower. This pendant is a reminder of a splendid age, that still radiates warmth through the art of coinage. - (FJ.6468)
