The rayed head of Helios, god of the sun, appears on the obverse of this ancient coin. It was colossal statue of this deity, one of the seven wonders of the ancient world, which guarded the entrance to the harbor of Rhodes. On the reverse is the rose emblem that gave the island its name. The person who first held this coin was witness to the flower of the classical age. To wear this splendid ring today is to link ourselves directly with the vanished glories of the past. - (FJ.3071)
