From ancient Greece, Helenistic period, ca. 3rd - 2nd Century B.C. Terracotta lay statuette of an Eros depicted nude, with outstretched wings, wearing a wreath, standing on a Doric style base, leaning against a figured column, his left leg bent forward, his right hand resting on his hip, the head is tilted slightly downward to the left, hollow underside open, with a circular vent hole at back. These statuettes were often placed in temples as votive offerings. ** References: cf.
