From ancient Egypt, Saite Period, Dynasty XXVI, 664 - 525 BC. A large faience amulet of seated Sekhmet of aqua-blue and black composition; of openwork design, the lioness goddess holding a sistrum, seated on a throne, its sides decorated with stylized serpents, a suspension loop behind the ears. Custom mounted on marble. Amulet itself measures 2-1/2"H (5.1 cm.), minor repair to left arm, else excellent.
