From ancient Costa Rica, Nicoya peninsula, ca. 800 A.D. Large terracotta, baluster-shaped urn on flared, pedestal foot with painted geometric triangle designs; upper rim with register of glyph-like symbols and a central geometric band; all in black and red over the cream ground. 13"H, small piece of base reattached, else intact with root marks and some deposits. Fine preservation of paint and surface.
