Jalisco Figure from West Mexico, ca. 100 B.C.-250 A.D. A fine Ameca variant in a kneeling position with arm outstretched. She is decorated with earrings and headdress with headband in a gray earthenware with deep red slip and cream highlights. Large expressive mask-like face with elongated head is notable, as well as its distinctly three dimensional left hand in comparison to the schematic, simply rendered right hand. This gesture is believed to be a call to the spirit world. A superb example of its type!
