A realistically formed figure of a resting sheep. The hollow form has two glazes - an overall straw-colored clear glaze with a drizzle of amber glaze that drips over its left side. The glazes have now turned iridescent from age - the amber glaze has a golden sheen. Under magnification, the glaze has a very fine crackle which is consistent with pieces of this period.
Period: Tang (618 - 907 AD)
Size: Height = 8.5 cm (3-3/8 inches), Length = 11.5 cm (4-1/2 inches)
Condition: Good. Has no breaks. There is one part at the breast where the glaze has chipped off (see photo). Normal wear from the centuries.
