Rare and wonderful sculpture by E. HEBERT The Alchemist. This is a beautiful 19th century bronzed white zinc sculpture by Edmond Ernest Hebert born 1824. Hebert created very unusual and interesting sculptures. This is the finest example of an alchemist I have had the pleasure to see. It depicts the alchemist intent with his work using his eye magnification to study the effects of his chemical engineering. As he stokes the flames to heat his experiment. His right foot is pumping the bellows forcing air to increase the heat of the flame. The top of the bellows have a carved incised bat. The sculpture is mounted in a polished variegated beige and sand colored marble base. Weight 25 lbs. Height of the sculpture not including the base 13-1/2 inches. With the base it measures 14 inches. The base is 14 inches long and a little more than 7 inches deep. This is a very rare sculpture guaranteed to please as are all our items. (Item #72779)
