Antique 19th century Meiji period (1868 -1912) Japanese Bronze Sculpture of a seated Geisha playing a drum. She is wearing a kimono and an obi, her hair is in an elaborate chignon with an attached flower on the top. She holds in her hands drumsticks. The drum is placed on the stand near her knees. The sculpture is superbly executed. The geisha, drum, sticks and base were cast separately, with hand chiseled details, highlighted with gilding.
CONDITION: The footed base has four drilled holes, since in the beginning of the 20 century the sculpture was converted to a lamp with an attachment for a light in the back, gilding slightly worn, and base with a trace of black paint.
DIMENSIONS: Height: 22 cm (8 3/4 in). Dimensions of the base: 20cm x 15.8cm (7 7/8 in x 6 1/4 in).
