An Elizabethan noblewoman's garb adorns this pure hand sculpted alabaster bust. Details of the "ruff". hair and floral decoration at her waist are intricate and well executed. Our courtesan is smiling and looking downward in perhaps a shy, demure and gentle fashion. The statue is not signed: I suspect the plinth has been replaced, and that with the original may have gone the artist's mark. The condition of the bust is good: no flaws noted. The size is 9" tall, over 5" across and 3" deep. The alabaster is not polished, which is exactly how I like my alabaster carvings!
