A hand sewn dance apron from the Kwakiutl People of Hope Island, Britisn Columbia. The central image is a Thunderbird adorned with mother of pearl trade buttons and further adorned with a piece of abolone on its brest. In addition there are two rows of cartridges, each topped with a trade bead, that function as jingles when the dancer moves. Two or three of the cartridges are missing as well as a similar number of buttons. Only very light soiling but the belt is a bit frayed. A good example of a 1960's-70's dance apron. 25.75" wide x 33: in length. The belt is 62" long.
