Antique scrimshaw whales tooth handed down through one family since the mid 19th century.
This tooth was carved by my great-grandfather who served as a sailor on clipper ships until about 1870.
The tooth is 5 1/2" tall and features a picture of a lady on each side.
The carvings are somewhat faded but that may have more to do with the aged yellow color of the tooth itself.
There are some minor cracks, a few stains, and a small chip off the bottom.
An authentic piece which can be legally sold due to its age.
