Mid to late 1800s lorgnette, folds to provide a quizzing glass, and folds open as a two-lens spectacle. Pretty handle with embossed-work ball decoration to centre. Large loop for suspension from a neck chain. Very elegant lorgnette in excellent condition with no wear. Closed, it measures 8.5 cm long, with the glass being 3.3.65 cm diameter. Open it is can be 9.5 cm wide at the spectacle part - or made smaller by folding in a little. Made in thick gold plate, as Americans call it, gold filled. Truly beautiful piece.
