1945- WW2 Dagger Letter Opener Trench Art Engraved
Metal letter openers like this were given to soldiers as souvenirs when they arrived in Italy during the war. On one side of the "blade" is engraved, in a sort of pointillistic style, the words "Pompei" and "NAPLES", as well as "1945" and the image of island volcanos.
The handle is shaped like a dragon curving its neck so that its mouth touches its chest, while its tail wraps around and around. The complete length of the letter opener is approximately 8 inches, and the letter opener is just under 1.5 inches at the widest point.
Wonderful addition for your collection!!!
