A lush setting of a bamboo glade with cranes and lotuses, rocks and a pine tree, with an island bearing weeping willow trees, are all carved in bold relief on this very elegant brush-pot in rare zitan (Pterocarpus santalinus) wood. Simple rims define the top and bottom, the latter with three shallow feet. The core at the base has been fitted with a plug of another wood. Chinese, late Ming Dynasty, approximately 6-3/8 at the widest diameter and 6-5/8 inches high.
