Antique 19th century Turkish Ottoman military Sword. A sturdy slightly curved narrow blade, cut on each side with a full-length fuller. A brass pistol shape hilt, and a bulbous pommel, in a characteristic Turkish Ottoman style, with a loop for the tassel. In its original leather-bound wooden scabbard, mounted with a large silver locket, and chape, embossed and engraved with foliage and trophies. Since the scabbard of the sword has no bands, or loops, for suspension, and only a loop on the pommel for a tassel, and the bottom of the chape is crushed, this indicates the possibility that the sword was used by a Turkish Officer as a walking cane, or swagger stick.
CONDITION: Minor splits on the joins of the brass pommel, and a trace of old soldering, possibly the loop is a later addition. The brass mountings are worn with minor splits.
MEASUREMENTS: The overall length with the scabbard: 87.6 cm (34 1/2 in).
