Antique Treen : Extraordinary extremely rare Tobacco Box / Humidor : C.19thC

An extraordinary extremely rare Black Forest type Tobacco Box / Humidor of
cylindrical shape having applied hand carved Devil masks showing the different
stages of craving for the drug, the Devil signifying the temptation. Each masks deeply
carved in different gestures from relaxed to stressed. Six different panels in all.
The body with hand carved decoration probably on a turned base. The lid again deeply
hand carved with another face mask remenisent of a Martin Brother's Jug Mask.

Having its original tin and lead tobacco press inside.

This item has been in our Collection for more than 20 years and has been an exhibit on the Saatchi Gallery
Webite for 2 years.

Circa late 19th century

Good Antique Condition with just light signs consistant with age as expected - no
damage or repairs
