Antique Yomud from West Turkestan, late nineteenth centuryA classic Turkoman 'Dyrnak' pattern spreads across the surface of elegant antique Yomud main carpet. The 'Dyrnak' or diamond-shaped medallions with hooked edges have varied internal color effects, and these are then arranged so that similar colored medallions form long diagonal rows. The overall effect is tessellated or tile-like in its geometric purity and precision. A serrated stylized double curled-leaf vinescroll or 'Ovadan' on a white ground comprises the border, echoing the precision of the field on an even finer scale.
