Antique Turkish Tuduc, late 19th century - This splendid little antique Turkish rug brings to life again the exquisite fantasy and luxury of Mogul India. Fine palmettes and arabesques sprawl graciously across the soft magenta ground. This pattern is punctuated along the center by a Buddhist pillar monument, a mosque, and small Hindu divinity flanked by dragons, all symbolizing the unity of the multi-cultural Mogul Empire. The main border, which shares the color and designs of the field, is distinguished from it mainly by a celidon minor border, allowing the visual aesthetic unity of the rug to complement its message cultural unity.
