In the 16th and 17th centuries, Jewish carpet weavers and artisan dyers were brought to work in Persia’s central carpet weaving centers where they introduced stories of Moses and biblical traditions seen in this carpet. Featuring bright, clear colors and a stone tablet with Hebrew calligraphy applied in advanced perspective, this rare Hebrew carpet depicts Moses transcribing the Ten Commandments and is evidence of Hebrew traditions and Judaic art that flourished in Persia.
