Antique Tabriz, Northwest Persia, late nineteenth century A staggered array of flowering v-shaped vines and palmettes in shades of gold, tan, and soft green, repeats rhythmically across the deep navy ground of this sumptuous antique Tabriz. Amidst this floral exuberance pairs of birds flank the base of the v-forms, adding an animated pictorial quality to the ornamental framework of the entire design. A vinescroll border with palmettes like those of the field is set against a cinnamon ground, surrounded to either side by sage green minor borders, which collectively frame the field design with a lovely color contrast.
