Antique Tabriz from Northwest Persia, circa 1910-1920Radiating clusters of finely drawn palmettes form a delicate network across the sandy gold field of this elegant Tabriz. A closer look discloses the underlying circular configurations of the palmettes and their stems, repeating one after another in vertical columns. These same palmettes with their pale blue accents recur in the border, but now as a running vine set against a ground slightly lighter than the field. Only the solid linear guard borders lend a firm structure to this gentle and highly decorative floral ensemble.
