Antique Tabriz Oriental rug from Persia, late nineteenth centuryFour flowering branches surround a central sprig with an alighting bird on this elegant and highly unusual Tabriz. The naturalistic pictorial style is not customary for Tabriz or any other Persian carpets. It reflects the influence of Armenian Karabagh rugs from the Caucasus just to the north, which in turn were inspire by French Savonnerie rugs. The palette of rich reds, greens, and mauve is especially lovely set against the warm sand field.
