Uzbek Silk Embroidery, 18th centuryThis elegant antique Uzbek embroidery depicts a classic prayer rug design with a scalloped niche or mihrab climbing gracefully above a field of lovely swaying flowers in soft pinks, mauve, burgundy, apricot, and lavender. Above the scalloped arch are scattered carnations in pale azure blue and crimson, which continue all around the piece as a border. The rich and exquisite color, accentuated by the lustrous silk, beautifully compliments the delicate mastery of the drawing.
