Antique Sultanabad, Persia, late nineteenth century. An allover design of curling vinescrolls with leafy, wing-like fronds repeats in staggered symmetry across the field of this stunning antique Sultanabad. The palette of these elements is soft, using shades pf gold, pale blue, and ivory, but its effect is nonetheless dramatic against the blue-black ground. The border system with its angular vinescrolls offers a nice contrast to the field with its predominantly gold coloration and its much finer, smaller scale.
