Antique Sultanabad, Persia, late nineteenth century. This lavish antique Sultanabad has monumental allover design of palmettes, leaves, and flowers shades of gold, orange, pale blue, and ivory, all set against a sage green ground. Similar palmettes on a smaller scale comprise the vinescroll border, but set against terracotta in contrast to the sage green field. Additional minor borders set on pale apricot reinforce the framing effect while still providing a gentle transition to the field.
