Swedish Tapestry Rug, twentieth century Made in the tradition of the Rollakan coverlets or blankets, this lovely Swedish tapestry rug preserves the abstract drawing and formal vocabulary of its Scandinavian folk art predecessors. Most of the design consists of horiziontal bands of stepped motifs, but two display patterns of linked flowers and vases still discernible through the rigorous geometric stylization. The soft palette of tans, brown, amd mauve nicely suits the reserved design sensibility.
