Antique Sarouk, Persia, early twentieth centuryThis lovely antique Persian Sarouk has a feathery allover design of vines and flowers set against a soft terracotta red field. The main border consists of wispy floral sprays or shrubs in alternating configuration on a rich blue ground that frames the field in a delicate but sure contrast. Minor borders of running vinescrolls enclose the main one, offering a nice transition to the field. The lush, thick, lustrous wool pile adds the perfect touch of luxury to the grace and richness of the design.
