43447 Antique Sarouk Farahan, Persia, late nineteenth century - A dazzling design of flowering, golden spiral vines spreads across the rich red field of this exceptional antique Sarouk Farahan. Within each circle of vines is a wreath-like cluster of green leaves and flowers reminiscent of holly. The wreath-like effect continues into the floral vinescroll main border, but set against a gold ground in contrast to the red field. Minor vinescroll borders flank the main one, accenting its framing effect. Farahans are famed for their lovely color, but they rarely achieve the sumptuous intensity of this impressive piece.
