Antique Oushak, Turkey, circa 1900 Resembling the Afshan Repeat and Harshang patterns of classic Persian and Caucasian carpets, an allover design of palmettes and whirling tendrils in pale gold repeats across the mauve aubergine field of this elegant antique Oushak. The fine detail and smaller scale of the border provides a nice contrast, while retaining the same coloration as the field, nicely unifying the overall composition. The lustrous, almost sliken wool shows off the soft coloration to great effect.
