Antique Oushak, Turkey, circa 1900 This antique Oushak is a symphony of luscious cream and tan tones accented with sparing linear detail in red. One might easily think that this detail largely comprises the pattern, but a closer look reveals the intervening design in tan on cream. The red details are only the core elements of larger palmette designs that tease the viewer like the smile of the Cheshire Cat. This is the sort of subtle colorism for which Oushaks are so prized nowadays.
