Antique Kurdish Runner from Persia, late nineteenth centuryThis outstanding antique Kurdish village weaving has the graphic power and charm of the Gabbeh rugs from further South in Persia. A series of diamond medallions in blue, runs the length of the soft red field. Within and without small circular or octagonal motifs fill the empty spaces, imparting a lively dynamic quality to the entire design. An inner border of zig-zags frames the field, surrounded by an outer one of octagons with stars like those of the field. The overall palette of rich yet soft colors - blues, golds, and reds - is classically Kurdish.
