A rich, dynamic design of angular pomegranate vine sprays sprawls across the field of this exquisite antique Khotan. The field is enclosed by a succession of multiple narrow borders – meanders, rosettes, barber poles, vinescrolls, and cloudbands. The overall design is quite complex and densely patterned, although the ultimate effect is reserved and sweetly decorative because of the soft, mellow amber coloration used consistently throughout the rug. This lushly soft tonality is enhanced further by lustrous quality of the wool.
