Antique Khorassan carpet from Persia, circa 1900A pointed polygonal medallion with serrated edges hovers amidst the field of this sumptuous antique Khorassan, capped by two grand ogival finials with similar edging. Scalloped cornerpieces create a kind of secondary oval outer medallion form. Vinescroll and palmette borders frame the entire composition. There is a remarkable unity to the carpet owing to the use of consistent ornamental detail throughout, as well as to a consistent range of soft, complementary colors - blues, golds, and mauve tans. As a result the piece works as a first-rate decorative carpet.
