For the most part, however, this complexity is mollified by the delicate tone-on-tone coloration of the carpet, so that much of the detail recedes immediately from the viewer’s eye. Selected areas have a blue ground rather than a tan one, lending emphasis to portions of the design as a punctuating effect, like the latent medallion at the center, or the areas projecting inward from the border at regular intervals.
