Antique Kerman Rug, central Persia, 1900's - An allover spray of soft blue vines and palmettes repeats rhythmically across the golden apricot field of this lovely antique Kerman. While they seem to be a continuous pattern, on closer inspection they turn out to be separate sprays of vines floating freely in juxtaposition, which explains the lightness and freedom of the pattern despite its complexity. The variegated color of the field provides an impression of depth and infinite space, again making the design appear to float freely.
