Antique Kashan Souf, Persia, late nineteenth century - A classical design of lush vinescrolls surrounded by a cartouche border unfolds simultaneously across both sides of this magnificent reversible antique Kashan or 'Souf.' On one side the pile is made of silk and metallic thread, while on the reverse it is made of wool. While each side has a notably different color scheme, both utilize lovely soft tones that heighten the delicate linear effects of the design. It is unusual for a carpet to be at once an artistic masterpiece and also a fine decorative piece that lends itself to modern decor. But this one has it all.
