Antique Kashan Carpet Fragment, Persia, late nineteenth century - An expansive yet finely articulated Mina Khani or floral trellis spreads gracefully across the field of one of what must have been one of the finest Kashan carpets produced in the late nineteenth century. The drawing and design are superb, even masterful, maintaining the highest classical Persian standards. Yet the true beauty of the piece resides ultimately in the color, especially in the interplay between the terracotta ground, the soft saffron vines, and the floral details in shades of pale blue, green, and ivory.
