Antique Giordes Turkish Rug, circa 1900 - This lovely antique Ghiordes is outstanding among Turkish village rugs for its exciting and unusual design as well as for its rich and varied coloration. The highly stylized field pattern looks almost like a series of superimposed ships with sails, or perhaps houses with tall trees. Small flowers and crosses fill the intervening spaces. The borders are notable for the striking geometry of their drawing, as well as for their varied color. Rugs are rarely one of a kind, but this example certainly comes close.
