Woven by members of the Gashgai tribal confederation, this classis rug features many of the group’s design trademarks, including a latchhook lozenge, intricately decorated guardbands and woven edges with a narrow striped format. The central lozenge features a dramatically dark field decorated with Herati motifs arranged in a tight Mina Khani-style pattern, which are bordered by a series of latchhooks that create a counterchange pattern against the ivory spandrels.
