Antique Farahan ( Fereghan ) Persian Carpet, late nineteenth century - A lovely arabesque medallion provides a central focus for the richly detailed saffron ground of this sumptuous antique Fereghan. Similarly articulated cornerpieces occupy the ends. Thin wreaths in blue define small transparent medallions across the rest of field, alternating with red and blue palmettes to produce a dense but permeable design texture. A dynamic stylized vinescroll border on a red ground maintains this texture while contributing the necessary framing contrast to the field.
