Antique Peking carpet from China, circa 1920 - Delicate viney cloudbands arrayed as diagonal strips repeat gracefully across the soft tan field of what has to be one of the more exquisite antique Peking rugs. Over half the cloudbands are barely discernible because of their tone on tone coloration. The border adapts these motifs and their color effects as an outer frame for the entire composition, giving the whole rug a remarkable visual unity and decorative effect.
