43561 Antique Bidjar, Persia, late nineteenth century - Antique Bidjars like this are famed for the precision of their design and the tightness of their weave, but rarely do they also achieve such rich saturated color as well. Here a lavish classic Persian ‘mina khani’ or allover vinescroll trellis in various shades of terracotta, green, and ivory unfolds across the blue-back field. The pattern, like the weave, is densely worked, that the dark ground is little more than an outline underscoring the rich color of the various vines and flowers. The palmette vinescroll border is somewhat more open, but set against terracotta in rich contrast to the field. The lustrous quality of the wool accentuates the vibrant effects of the palette.
