Antique Bijar from Persia. late nineteenth century - A gently dynamic allover network of curling, ribbon-like soft red vinescrolls unfolds symmetrically across the pale blue ground of this elegant antique Bijar, gracefully punctuated by large palmettes, thin tendrils, and flowers. The palmettes are further embellished by fine, lace-like interior flowers. The border has similar palmettes linked by large soft red arabesque s-shaped vines of classic Persian derivation, effectively tying in with the palette of the field while still providing a contrasting frame.
