Antique Bibikabad, Persia, early twentieth century A finely-scaled pattern of boteh or paisley motifs in staggered rows repeats endlessly across the field of this elegant antique Bibikabad. A fine mesh of vines fills the space around the botehs, adding an extra layer of finesse and complexity, while a small arabesque medallion floats over the botehs at the center of the field. The whole composition is surrounded by a main border with the classic 'turtle' or arabesque vinescroll. The zig-zag minor borders enclosing the main one add a graphic quality that effectively contrasts and underscores all the delicate detail.
