Antique Bessarabian Kilim Rug, circa 1900 - A lovely array of floral sprays in soft green-blue, mauve, pale apricot, and soft red floats happily across the deep chocolate ground of this wonderful antique Bessarabian kilim, surrounded by a vinescroll border with similar coloration. Bessarabian weavings combine the color sensibility and weaving texture of Turkish kilims with a naturalistic drawing style derived from western European rugs and tapestries, and in this example the blend is simply superb. The colors of this piece - simultaneously rich but soft - are especially beautiful.
