Antique Amritsar, India, early 20th century This majestic antique Agra carpet is an unusual response to the classic Heriz pattern with a large central medallion and cornerpieces. This carpet, however, avoids the often bright and varied colors of Herizes in favor of a soft, cool, and uniform palette of pale aubergines, mauves, and celidons. The resulting effect is that the medallion is less dominant, and also that the bold graphic Heriz drawing seems softer and more refined, increasing the decorative potentials and possibilities of the piece.
