Produced by Moughal carpet weavers in the northern city of Agra, this elegant area rug is an excellent example of the velvety, directional pile associated with the asymmetric carpet knot as well as the Indian interpretation of the Shah Abbas arabesque. Designed to suit the luxurious tastes of Moughals, this finely patterned arabesque with a spiraling network of branches reflects a delicate refinement of the Safavid’s heavily decorated patterns.
