Throughout his life Abraham was directed by God to perform many difficult tasks, including establishing a new land for his people, i.e. Canaan. God appeared to Abraham in the form of three angels, representing the Holy Trinity. He offers this mystical gathering bread and wine, prefiguring the Eucharist. In the background is an oak tree and buildings in the style of Medieval Russia. The use of brilliant blue and white enamel heightens the drama and adds perspective.
