The Virgin Mary is the central figure of this fascinating and lovely icon. She is seen in a holy state, blessing sinners gathered around her. Two banners above her on either side read, from left to right, "Those who lead a sinful life"... "Jesus Christ will bring you salvation." Above the Virgin is the inscription, "The image of the Mother of God." Surrounding Mary are eighteen saints and angels, the most high are at the top; from left to right, the Archangel Michael, Virgin Mary, Jesus Christ, St. John the Baptist and the Archangel Gabriel. Each of the busts is encircled by graceful foliage set against a rich blue and white background.
